Here at DOSHIN, we consider our own Black Belts to be something like a Diploma...
if you think about it, you've spent just as much time and effort in obtaining your
Black Belt as you did in getting your high school or college diploma?!?!?. Many of
our clients are greatly surprised to hear that the prices for our top of the line
belts (i.e. Tokaido, Hirota, Shureido and KI Deluxe) do not include custom embroidery
AND that a belt with factory embroidery
will cost $130.00! So, are we crazy or trying to "rip" you off? Well,
crazy we well may be (you know anybody sane that lets other people throw kicks and
punches at them?). As for "ripping" you off, we all go to bed and enjoy the
sleep of the innocent!
We honest to goodness own and use Tokaido Black Belts that are over twenty years old - AND - we have no doubt that when the time comes, those belts will serve our kids for a long time!
We carry a full range of colored belts to suit the budgets of all our clients.
Check it out at the next tournament you attend. We're pretty sure that you'll be able to tell, without looking too closely, which are the belts meant to last between KYU exams, which are meant to last until the new Shodan loses motivation, and which are meant to last a life-time. We believe that at $3.00 a character for embroidery, and by providing a selection of various grades of belts, we are offering an alternative to the 1st Quality Tokaido, Hirota, Shureido and KI Deluxe custom embroidered belts.... Feel free to let us know what you think - are we snobs, or are we extremely proud of our accomplishments and made a good deal by getting a belt that will last the rest of our lives (knock on wood that we'll be able to train that long!). Did you know how to tell the difference between a Belt manufactured in Japan and Pakistan?, or Hong Kong?, or The People's Republic of China? Japanese Belts are sewn together in a continuous linear pattern. This ensures that the belt will hang straight. This is the standard for all high quality Belt manufacturers - as opposed to less detailed oriented manufacturers, who sew in a rectangular pattern because it's faster, cheaper and takes less skill. This produces a Belt that corkscrews when you wear it. Next time you're looking at that expensive Belt in the display case, does it seem to twist a little? Maybe you're not getting the quality that you are paying for?
