Profile:
Tetsuhiko Asai Sensei

Preceded by Hirokazu Kanazawa and Masataka Mori, Asai Sensei was the third JKA Instructor assigned to Hawaii and was chief instructor from 1964 through 1969. Later, in 1983, he returned to Hawaii with his family and noticed that the JKA groups there were split, so, he suggested that they become ONE.  In 1984, he advised the late Nakayama Sensei to established the South Pacific Region. The chief instructor of the South Pacific Region established in 1991 the Tetsubu Kan International to commit its organization to the 'Tetsu'hiko Asai Karate-do. Through the Tetsubu Kan International the German Karate Federation, DKV [Deutscher Karate Verband], was able to obtain Asai Sensei annually since 1994 to conduct seminars. This year [1998], the Tetsubu Kan International was able to conduct a very successful Asai Sensei seminar in Hawaii and will conduct the 1999 Asai Sensei seminar in Rhode Island, USA.

Dear Mr. Fujiwara,

I am dropping a line to thank you for travelling half way around the world to assist Asai Sensei in presenting his wonderful Karate-Do seminar.

I was deeply impressed by Sensei's technical abilities, experience, kind spirit, and, most of all, by the genuine way in which He teaches and lives the true meaning of Karate Do.

It is refreshing in this day and age to meet someone that has transformed his life so much to live in accordance with what I consider the highest form of martial art: the perfection of one's body, mind and spirit, and, dedicating one's life to help others achieve the same results.

Sensei's humbleness, humorousness, simplicity, understanding of his students, and passion in teaching what he has learned from a life devoted to the practice of Karate-Do are, in my opinion, the true marks of an higly accomplished Karateka.

This seems to be highly infectious because everyone around him seemed to share of the same aura of simplicity, happiness, and true joy in training together and living the karate way.

Please extend my best regards and my sincere appreciation to all who made this possible with their hard work: besides yourself, Mr. Chihara, Mr. Lee, Mr. Connell, Mr. McDormett, and all the "Over-The-Hill" Karate gang come to mind.

Keep up the good work.

Fujiwara Sensei

Hello - It was a pleasure to meet all of you at Asai Sensei's seminar. Now that we have met the "aloha spirit" Ping Foong and I hope to visit you at your dojo as soon as possible.  Thank you again for your kind invitation.

Also, as we discussed - please, at your earliest convenience provide us with the address for Asai Sensei's dojo in Tokyo.  One student at Princeton is graduating this spring and returning home to Japan.  I would like to send him back to Asai Sensei.

We hope to see you soon.

Aloha Ed!

I hope you made it back home alright.

I thank you for such a good time we have all spent with you and Asai Sensei. It has been delightful and inspiring.

I also thank you for allowing me to become part of something I have better understood now, and which I appreciate and respect: the Tetsubu Kan.

Talk to you soon, my friend.
Mahalo!
