Oshiro Sensei gives a brief history the Bo in Okinawa

The Yamanni Ryu Bo-jutsu Seminar conducted by Toshihiro Oshiro Sensei was once again a great success. Co-hosted by DOSHIN and Japan Karate Association - Santa Monica (the Western Region Headquarters of the International Shotokan Karate Federation) at the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Monica, the seminar was slanted towards beginning KOBUDO students, however, there were enough advanced participants to keep things lively (and provide good examples for the rest of us - yes - there were many DOSHIN faces present...). Oshiro Sensei introduced two beginning Kata, and there were Kumi-Bo drills to help emphasize Kata highlights.

BUGEISHA Editor Angel Lemus managed to break away from Issue #2 to get in some practice with Oshiro Sensei. Angel is a walking history of Karate and Kobudo who doesn't mind answering questions, so it was great that he could attend.

Follow the link to the Ryuku Bujutsu Kenkyu Doyukai for more information about Yamanni Ryu and Oshiro Sensei. Watch the DOSHIN Events Calendar for the next seminar or give us a holler by E-Mail or telephone.

Oshiro Sensei is a delightful person and a talented instructor.... Sensei himself commented on the number of people teaching Yamanni Ryu after attending one seminar or watching the TSUNAMI Video Productions tape. All kidding aside, if you have an opportunity to train with Oshiro Sensei take advantage of it! A majority of the folks in the DOSHIN hosted seminar were repeat participants who are ready for the next go around.
